7 Plumbing Tools Every Homeowner Should Have

    March 13, 2018

If you are a homeowner, there are plenty of tools that you should have around the house. Some of these tools are the ones that you should use for plumbing. Below are seven plumbing tools that you should have in your house.

    1. Plungers

Plungers are the tools that you are going to use most often in the home. There are different types of plungers – sink plungers and toilet plungers. The sink plungers have flat openings. They’ll apply even pressure when you use them on shower and sink drains. The toilet plungers come with flanged openings. If your home doesn’t have the type of plunger, you’re going to have a lot of trouble unclogging the toilet.

    2. Long-nosed Pliers

If you’re noticing that your sink is draining slowly, these types of pliers are going to be very helpful. You’ll have to remove that nut under your sink in your bathroom which is holding your drain plug there. Then you’re going to notice a lot of hair. With these pliers you’ll have no trouble reaching deeply into your drain and grabbing and removing the hair.

    3. Pipe Wrenches

Having a set of these types of wrenches is going to be very helpful when it comes to pipes and plumbing. Wrenches aren’t going to let you grip pipes. A pipe wrench has teeth that face backwards, and they make it easy to grip rounded surfaces. You’re going to have no trouble removing shower heads and gripping parts for water connection.

    4. Plumbing Tape

Anytime you’re putting pipes together again or you are replacing a shower head, you’re going to need plumbing tape. It’s not sticky and made of Teflon. The great thing about this type of tape is that it will seal pipe threads so that they won’t leak. Anytime you have a threaded connection you are going to need some plumbers tape so that you avoid water leakage.

    5. Basin Wrench

The basin wrench is the huge red wrench that you see a plumber holding. When you want to tighten or loosen nuts on a faucet, you are going to need this type of wrench. It’s narrow, long and its clamp is adjustable. This means that it’s perfect when you have to reach those sink bolts near the cabinet’s back.

    6. Adjustable Wrench

A lot of plumbing fixtures use nuts that are shaped like hexagons. That is why you need an adjustable wrench. You are going to have no trouble working on compression fittings and supply lines because this wrench has a firm setting. These wrenches come in models that are 6 and 10 inches.

    7. Hand Auger

Anytime you have a sink or shower that won’t drain, chances are that you have a clog which you have to remove. Before calling a plumber, it’s a good idea to remove the clog using your hand auger. Use your hand crank so that you’re extending its metal wire down the drain so that the clog is broken up or you’re able to pull that clog out.

These are seven plumbing tools every homeowner should have. Having these tools can help you save a lot of money and avoid having to call a plumber.
